Don’t face financial pressure alone
Worrying about money is common. If you’re feeling overwhelmed by bills, being contacted by debt collectors, or unsure how to get on top of your budget, we’re here to help.
Reaching out can be the first step toward feeling more in control. At Lifeline Northern Beaches, Mosman to Kirribilli, our financial counsellors are here to provide free, confidential and non‑judgemental support for anyone experiencing financial hardship or distress. We take the time to listen, understand your unique situation, and work with you to explore options that work for you.
How our financial counsellors can help you
Support through financial stress
We help you make sense of your financial position, understand your rights, and identify practical steps. All at a pace that feels manageable.
Budgeting and financial confidence
Together, we’ll look at your income, expenses, and priorities. Our goal is to help you build confidence, strengthen financial skills, and support you to make informed decisions about your finances.
Advocacy and negotiation
With your permission, we can speak with lenders, utility providers, phone and internet companies, debt collectors, and other organisations on your behalf to explore options and negotiate workable arrangements.
Connection to additional supports
We can connect you with other services to support your wellbeing, such as mental health, housing, or community programs.

This service is partially funded by an industry-funded grant by the Financial Counselling Industry Fund.

FAQs
Do I need a referral to access financial counselling?
No referral is needed. You’re welcome to contact us directly for support.
Is financial counselling only for people with large debts?
No. Financial counselling can also help if you’re feeling pressure from rising bills, finding everyday expenses hard to manage, or struggling to keep up with repayments.
What do I need to prepare for my first appointment?
It helps if you can gather information to help us understand your financial situation. Bring what you can – we’ll help with the rest.
It’s useful to bring:
- Debt documents (loan statements, Letters of Demand, Statements of Claim)
- Income information (payslips or Centrelink statement)
- Around 3 months of bank statements
- Photo ID (eg. driver license, passport, …)
Can I get help if debt collectors are contacting me?
Yes. If debt collectors are contacting you and you’re unsure what to do next, a financial counsellor can help you understand your rights, your options, and the next steps.
How many financial counselling sessions will I need?
The level of support can vary depending on your situation. Some people may only need a single conversation, while others may need support over a longer period as they work through more complex financial issues.
What qualification do you financial counsellors hold?
Our Financial counsellors are trained professionals who hold the nationally recognised Diploma of Financial Counselling and are members of Financial Counselling Association of NSW (FCAN).
Do I have to pay for financial counselling?
No. Financial Counsellors are not permitted to charge fees for service and do not receive commissions. This is a legal requirement to ensure that financial counselling remains independent, confidential, and focused on your best interests.
