Face to Face Counselling

Face-to-face counselling is an integral part of our service at Lifeline Northern Beaches. Our counsellors are tertiary trained and accredited professionals, who also have training in applied suicide intervention skills.

Counselling

Our counsellors are available for specialised, face-to-face counselling sessions – both during and after business hours, and on weekends. We are also offering counselling via Zoom as telehealth appointments.

Sometimes people are connected to our counsellors after making a call to our 24/7 Telephone Crisis Support line; but you can also call us to arrange a consultation (no referral from a medical practitioner is needed).

We have counsellors available in Balgowlah and Mosman.

What happens in a counselling session?

Counselling very often involves a process of clarifying the issues, encouraging self-awareness, exploring available options, and developing coping strategies. As well as helping clients to develop the behaviour patterns, skills, tools and techniques to deal with their issues, our face-to-face counsellors may also refer clients to additional specialists if needed.

What can counsellors help with?

Our counsellors have a range of qualifications and many of them have specialist knowledge and experience in specific areas. This enables them to help people from a wide variety of backgrounds, and with a wide variety of issues, including:

  • Mental health concerns
  • Depression/ anxiety
  • Panic / phobias
  • Substance misuse / addictions
  • Gambling issues
  • Suicide risk and suicide bereavement
  • Grief and loss
  • Relationship and family problems
  • Adjustment / change
  • Self – esteem
  • General issues

New clients are matched to a face-to-face counsellor who is equipped to help deal with their particular situation.

Lifeline Northern Beaches charges a small fee for Face-to-Face counselling service. Fees are low cost and will be based on a sliding scale fee structure.  The intake team will assess capacity to pay as part of their intake process.

Do I need a referral?

No, you are able to access our counselling service without a referral. We do welcome referrals from GPs, health and other allied health organisations, and accept mental health care plans.
